The Closure of the Luncheon Club at Holmefield House and the rapid onset of the Government’s self-isolation measures will have a significant impact on the 75-95 age group that attended the Luncheon Club. These recent measures have speeded up the Council’s decision to provide a Meals on Wheels service for Luncheon Club members, but there will be some spare capacity for other vulnerable, elderly and infirm residents of the village.
This service will start on Monday 30th March 2020 and run at lunch times Monday to Friday. The service will be offered to Barrowford residents on a needs basis. The food will be prepared at Holmefield House by a local chef who is currently not working as a result of Government closure orders. The chef is doing it on a voluntary basis and has long experience in running a kitchen. Initially for the first week the meal will be a main course only, with a pudding/desert from the second week.
The cost has been reduced to a minimum with a main course costing £3 and a pudding/desert £1. These prices are set to cover material costs and help enable the most vulnerable residents to afford a meal five days a week if necessary.
